North Carolina's P.J. Hairston has been selected as the StatSheet ACC Player of the Week for the week ending February 18th. Duke's Rasheed Sulaimon has been recognized as StatSheet ACC Freshman of the Week. And last but certainly not least, Duke's Tyler Thornton has won StatSheet's ACC 6th Man of the Week. Hairston tallied 50% shooting, 7.5 rebounds per game, and 3.5 three pointers per game. The North Carolina sophomore put these numbers up in a win versus Virginia and a loss to Duke.
Hairston led all scoring and rebounding for the Tar Heels with 23 points and 8 rebounds in a 73-68 loss to Duke. He followed that up by leading the team in scoring with 29 points plus an additional 7 rebounds in a narrow 93-81 win over Virginia.
This is the first StatSheet ACC Player of the Week award for P.J. Hairston. However, he has come in second once. The runner-up this week is Maryland sophomore Alex Len. Honorable mention goes to Duke sophomore Quinn Cook.
StatSheet ACC Freshman of the Week: Duke's Rasheed Sulaimon
Rasheed Sulaimon averaged 35 minutes starting both games for Duke. In a late 73-68 win over North Carolina, Sulaimon tallied 13 points and 5 assists. In an 83-81 loss to Maryland, he added 16 points and 4 rebounds.
This marks the second time this season that Rasheed Sulaimon has won the StatSheet ACC Freshman of the Week. Jake Layman from Maryland grabs runner-up. Honorable mention goes to Seth Allen from Maryland. The highest ranking freshman from Georgia Tech was Marcus Georges-Hunt who finished 9th.
StatSheet ACC 6th Man of the Week: Duke's Tyler Thornton
Junior Tyler Thornton, a 6-1 guard, averaged 23 minutes over the two games for the Blue Devils. In the win over North Carolina, Thornton got 9 points and 3 rebounds. Then in the loss to Maryland, he racked up 2 assists and 4 steals.
This is the first time this season that Tyler Thornton has won the StatSheet ACC 6th Man of the Week. Reggie Johnson, a senior center from Miami (FL), is the runner up. Eddie Odio, a sophomore forward from Boston College, earns honorable mention. Kammeon Holsey finished 5th and was the highest ranking 6th man from Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech has yet to win the StatSheet ACC Player of the Week award this season.
